“Artification 2018”, the GAMMA festival of music, art and new urban culture
This work shows the dreams of chicks that haven’t hatched yet. Excerpts from the early films of the Lenfilm studio serve as the actual dreams (Chapaev, 1934; Peter the Great, 1937; Heavenly Slug, 1964). These videos are projected onto cut-in-half ping pong balls from inside. The balls depict egg shells.
We don’t always understand why we make certain decisions in life, however, on closer examination, we can often see what has formed us. Previously, we didn’t have access to a lot of information and our minds were shaped by a much narrower variety of information, presented mainly through television and cinema. Who could grow on these films? What goals and desires could they form? The result of this line of thought are the six videos in which I collected the main themes of the films of that period. These videos are about fun and drunkenness, love and friendship, managing people, freedom of spirit, strategies and plans, parenthood and children. Ironically, the main theme of all these films is war. In my installation, the war is shown through a broken egg, that is a symbol of a broken desire and an interrupted dream. The war is opposed to everything that people can dream of.
